CHOOSING THE RIGHT INGREDIENTS
The Scottish Government wants YOUR VIEWS on the future of food in Scotland.
A consultation is underway to ensure that “fresh, high-quality, healthy, Scottish food is the first choice on everyone’s menu”.
Our world-wide reputation for quality food is an invaluable resource whose full potential is just waiting to be tapped. “Food is about so much more than what we eat. It’s about jobs, the environment, tourism and the health of our nation” (Richard Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary for rural Affairs and the Environment).
The discussion paper “Choosing the right Ingredients” can be viewed at www.scotland.gov.uk/food/. You will see a rigorously set out overview of where we’ve been, where we want to go and how we want to get there. Potential areas for change include:
- traceability, labeling and knowing more about our food
- local, sustainable food production
- teaching the next generation about their food.
YOUR INPUT is needed to help set the direction for this, Scotland’s first, national food policy.
Your views can be submitted on-line at the above website.
